Donesia D. Turner
City Attorney
1300 Perdido St Suite 5E03
New Orleans, LA 70112
Dear Ms. Turner:
Louisiana Landmarks Society would like to thank you and your department for the legal opinions issued recently that have aided in the preservation of some of the most important features of New Orleans. We are particularly grateful for those written by Deputy City Attorney Thomas Milliner concerning the authority of the Vieux Carré Commission. The opinions issued by your department in May, when we faced the threat of a moratorium of enforcement powers of the Vieux Carre’ Commission (ordinance calendar no. 34,187), and in November, verifying the authority of VCC over state-owned buildings –were very powerful and helpful.
When Mr. Milliner served on the board of Louisiana Landmarks Society, he displayed an extensive knowledge of zoning and historical preservation law. His opinions on these issues were always valued. We thank him, and you for your professionalism and dedication for the preservation of our City’s unique historical legacies.
Sincerely,
René Fransen
