Louisiana Landmarks Society and Save Our Cemeteries have partnered together to present a special tour on "19th Century Mourning and Interment Customs." The tour will showcase both the historic Pitot House museum and St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, with light refreshments to be served afterwards.
Tour groups will meet at the Pitot House on Bayou St. John at 1:30pm and walk to the historic St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 with a trained and licensed tour guide. After a tour of burial customs and the historic figures located in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3, the tour will return to the Pitot House with a short tour of the house and collections. The Pitot House will display 19th Century mourning attire and other period necro-artifacts and textiles from a private collection on loan (through October 11).
Tours will end at the Pitot House at approximately 3:30 to be followed by light refreshments.
This combined special tour will be held every Friday between September 20 and November 15, with the exception of All Saints Day on November 1.
The cost is $25 per person. Special pricing is available for LLS members and large groups - to schedule, please call Louisiana Landmarks Society at 504-482-0312.
